Confidence Project
In this section you will find two different posters, one is a poster about imposter syndrome and the other is a poster about the Dunning-Kruger effect. These posters were designed to show an example of both and bring awareness to them.
People who struggle with imposter syndrome believe that they are undeserving of their achievements and the high esteem in which they are, in fact, generally held. They feel that they aren't as competent or intelligent as others might think—and that soon enough, people will discover the truth about them.
Imposter Syndrome
In the above image you can see an example of some experiencing imposter syndrome. The image illustrates an art gallery with some images on display. In this we can see a group of people gathered around the center picture which as a display plague about it with the sub text saying Fake on it. We can also see the artist looking distressed as well. The center picture is a work of are and even got displayed in an art gallery, but the artist is in fear that people will think she is a fake despite everything. This is something that anyone can experience at any point in their life and something that even I have dealt with from time to time. We just need to learn to stand strong and stay confident in our work and don’t let our brains trick us.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is a type of cognitive bias in which people believe they are smarter and more capable than they are. Essentially, low-ability people do not possess the skills needed to recognize their own incompetence. The combination of poor self-awareness and low cognitive ability leads them to overestimate their capabilities.
Dunning-Kruger Effect
With this image we are seeing an example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. The illustrated image is showing a man walking out of his door after reading how to fly and playing a flight simulator and walking onto a tarmac with a plane in his line of sight and confident in flying it. We can then see text stating that “Just because you read a few books doesn’t make you an expert”. We encounter people from time to time who think that just because they have read a few books on a subject that they are an expert even if they have no hand on experience and that is not always the case.
